Traditional sources of black oak are scarce. Before turning into black oak, oak wood must be covered by water and mud for hundreds of years. Therefore I have undertook the project of oak wood modification. Here are the examples of the outcomes. The process I have developed mimics the natural process, in such manner that:
1. No volatile organic solvents are used.
2. Coating are made from natural oils, like lineseed oil and tung oil.
3. No paint is used.
The process emphasizes natural wood structure, the parts which absorb the modifying agent more, are getting darker, these which absorb less modifying agents are lighter.
Wood modification gives unique results. Here is a box modified according to "black oak" technique. Carved lines have been modified according to "orange oak" technique.
Further, "black oak" technique allows to observe unique wood structure as their ability to react with our solution is different. As a result black and brown lines and surfaces are being formed.
